Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch Review

Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men's Watch Review

Diesel’s been making quite a name for itself in the past few decades. Known for its affordable watches and ‘in your face’ modernist look, Diesel has a lot of attitude, spunk, and it definitely has a marketing department that captures the modern watch aficionado’s attention. With that said, Diesel’s sports luxury entry, the Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch definitely has, shall we say, limited appeal. Sports luxury watches not only have to look good but they also have to deliver two often contradictory values and impressions. On the one hand, they must look like you can go racing, climbing mountains, or go beach combing with them. On the other, these watches should still look genteel and classy enough that you can wear them indoors. This is quite a tall order and only a few watch brands can convincingly pull this combination off.

SBA Impressions & Overview

The good news is that the Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch looks great. It definitely acquits itself in the department. However, when it comes to truly delivering on the 3 keys promises of a rugged luxury watch, this Diesel product is definitely still a work in progress. First, true sports luxury watches have to have the right style that mixes ruggedness and elegance/class. Second, noteworthy contenders in this class of watches must also be powered by the right watch movement mechanism. Finally, credible luxury sports watches must have value added features that firmly establish its sports luxury credentials. The Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch has some ground to cover on these criteria.

Style: Retro case and face. Obviously sports-inspired. Great-looking case designs.

When it comes to looks, the Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch acquits itself well. It definitely looks like a sports luxury watch. With its great retro styling from those classic eras of watch designs-the 70s and 80s-the Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch definitely introduces lots of playfulness in the sports luxury watch arena With that said, Diesel’s appeal is primarily superficial. It doesn’t go any deeper. For example, this model doesn’t light up if you’re looking for the time. This is crucial in the outdoors. You simply don’t know when you’ll need to look up the time and you can’t assume it will be light out. This model might look like a luxury watch, but its overall functionality and design are purely for looks only and not rugged function.

SBA Movement Type: Japanese quartz

If you’re going to be out and about outdoors, there’s something to be said about not having to worry about winding your timepiece. Quartz-powered watches ensure that you don’t have to bother with consciously winding your watch. Also, the great thing about Japanese quartz technology is that it manages to squeeze as much energy out of quartz as possible to power precision timepieces. While there is something inherently ingenious about using a piece of electricity-emitting crystal to power your watch, this ingenuity isn’t enough for luxury watch connoisseurs. This is why quartz-based watches are automatically ranked a notch or two lower than purely self-wound automatic watches.

Special Features: Affordability

If there are any two saving graces for the Diesel SBA Only The Brave Brown Dial Men’s Watch, it would have to be this Diesel product’s affordability. Imagine getting the sporty luxury of a high end watch with a matching luxurious rugged look without having to pay through the nose? This is precisely the value Diesel brings to the table with this product. It isn’t perfect but if you’re just looking for a versatile and flexible sports luxury look and you don’t plan to go near any body of water with it, you should definitely check out this timepiece.
